Announcement

“…sculptures and works on paper by Russ Ellis, a retired professor and vice chancellor at University of California, Berkeley, who creates two- and three-dimensional abstractions that explore the "taken-for-granted world."

A sociologist with a specialty in architecture and urban design, Ellis is accustomed to investigating the intangible elements that underlie physical constructions. "A now-deceased French phenomenologist, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, famously said, 'The rims of our glasses are further away than the mountains.' It's that realm between the completely familiar and the unknown that interests me." Ellis has said.

Sculptures and Drawings by Russ Ellis is on view through February 28 at Smith Andersen North. The gallery hosts a public reception for the artist on Saturday, February 10, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
